Moulding Technology for Particle Foam Processing

The radiofrequency technology of Kurtz Protective Solutions takes particle foam processing to new technical and more sustainably level. Kurtz has developed an energy-efficient, steamless processing method that re-processes more recycled material than ever before and even high-temperature resistant or biological materials such as corn grits which is fully compostable and made from food industry waste. The Kurtz WAVE FOAMER is operated with electrical energy and achieves energy savings of up to 90%. Compared to conventional steam processing machines, the radiofrequency technology in Kurtz shape moulding machines can save up to 70% CO2, and 100% water depending on the material used.

Various applications and customers require reliable information on sustainable foam products, which are also certified by an independent third party. The polymer foam processing plants in Roermond (NL) and Bad Sobernheim (DE) implemented the strict principles of International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) and offer certified sustainable products to their customers. ISCC PLUS certified foam products ensure transparency and traceability along the entire supply chain and confirm that the certificate holder meets the prescribed environmental and social standards. This helps customers to make credible and verifiable decisions on sustainable products that contribute to saving fossil resources along the supply chain.

The hydraulic cutting machine is designed for bevel or through-cutting of components (HRC 60° hardened and ground steel plate), with a force of 12 to 70 tons. The HSC machine with a 100 CUT/MINUTE cut (10mm over a distance of 20mm), easy to use with precise and fast feed (precision: ‡0.2mm, speed: 1.5 meter/sec), low power consumption (hydraulic system). Solid construction (heavy-duty frame), central mechanics set parallel by +0.01 mm, maximum noise reduction with our electronic cutting machine (multi-strip laminator)

The HSC is a large-diameter, single-cylinder, hydraulic, rapid-cutting press with a useful cutting surface from 300 x 300 to 600 x 600 and 4 manual or motorized mechanical stops at +/-0.01 mm. The HSC machine complies with C.E. standards, and has full cutting capacity on logs or half-logs, with a touch-screen control panel in French. The hydraulic cutting press has a cutting stroke of 110mm and a quick change of cutting tool, with a protective casing and/or class 4 photocells.

The Movable Splitting Machine H 36 is used to split long blocks into thin sheets which are being wound up to a roll where space is limited. The H 36 machine with movable cutting unit, allows to save approx. 50% of the space compared to a machine with a movable long block. The processing of these roll goods is mainly done in the mattress-, packing, shoe and in the automotive industry. This machine type is very popular in Asia and in South America also as is an alternative to an expensive looper, however with a lower investment budget.

This machine type has been developed mainly by Asian machine manufacturer but without respecting the European or American safety regulations. For this reason Fecken-Kirfel decided recently to develop such a machine as well but considering all the necessary norms and safety regulations to be able to use this machine in the European Union and in the US. Criteria of efficiency and safety: Restriction of space availability (height and length), EU standard with CE admission (safety devices: guards, light barriers), One man-operation and Cutting accuracy of +/- 0,1 - 0,3 mm depending on the properties of the material.

The experts in foam will lift the secret behind two new EPDM grades. This much can be revealed: A closed-cell EPDM will be presented that has been specially developed for industrial applications. The second new grade is a semi-closed EPDM with a somewhat bigger cell structure. The manufacturer of cellular rubber and cellular polyethylene sees the main area of application in the automotive industry. With these two fundamentally new grades, W.
