Pahlke - eco-conscious promo

Sustainable foam materials - the alternative

In the past, polyurethane (PUR) foams were produced primarily from raw materials based on crude oil. Today, there are various methods for producing foam materials with a steadily increasing sustainable content. These techniques reduce the proportion of fossil components, lower climate-damaging CO2, or utilise various recycling options to decrease the use of new resources by means of a circular economy. Together with suppliers and project partners, Pahlke has been working with conviction for many years on the development and marketing of foam materials with sustainable components and their sustainable processing.

USEON Technology Limited

Reduced CO2 prouction with low-density polyethylene foams

Foam manufacturing faces growing challenges in reducing carbon footprints and meeting environmental standards. In the small niche of light polyethylene foam, most production is adapted to existing machines rather than optimizing machines for the process. ALEMO proudly introduces a breakthrough in PE foam sheet production: for every 1kg of foam produced on ALEMO extruders, the CO2 footprint is reduced by over 1kg compared to competitors. This significant saving is achieved by producing lighter, low-density small cell foams with optimal mechanical properties, using energy-efficient extrusion lines specifically designed around the production process.

Lightweight filler and blowing agent in one

Expancel® Microspheres from Nouryon serve as both a lightweight filler and blowing agent in one unique solution. These small thermoplastic spheres encapsulate gas, which expands when heated as the shell softens, resulting in a substantial increase in volume without adding significant weight. Ideal for use as foaming agents or lightweight fillers across various applications, Expancel® microspheres enhance technical foams by combining unexpanded and expanded spheres to create exceptionally lightweight, uniform, closed-cell foams. This innovative approach requires no binders or additives and significantly reduces VOC content.
